AbstractFactors for the mycelial growth of straw mushroom (Volvariella volvacea)in the liquid media were studied at room temperature under stationary conditions for 15 days cultivation. It was found that the mycelium grew rather well in the potato media contained white sugar (PW)than brown sugar (PB). Among 5 liquid medias, the growth of mycelium in molasses white sugar (MW)showed the best result of 0.258 g/mL of dry weight compared to PW, tomato white sugar (ToW), taro white sugar (TaW)and rice broken white sugar (RW), respectively. The supplement of MW media with hydrolysate soybean meal (MWH)contributed to the appreciate growth of mycelium obtained 0.700 g/100 mL of dry weight at pH 6.0. The MWH media under shaking at 150 rpm was the optimum condition gave 1.613 g/mL of dried weight of mycelium. Whereas the enlarged cultivate bottle with applying the air at a rate of 1.5 L/min showed a noticeable increase in dry weight to 1.735 g/mL at the same condition.
