AbstractRice flour and cassava starch was mixed with glycerol or glyceryl monostearate at concentration of 0.2, 5 and 10% to make film-making-materials. Drum dryer and twin screw extruder were the instruments used to prepare film-making-materials. Twin screw extruder demonstrated a better result by producing products greater in water solubility. Increasing of mixed glycerol concentration resulted on better film surface appearance, however, caused films to break easier when folded. Mixing glyceryl monostearate in great amount of 5 and 10% did not improve the film appearance or quality. Cassava starchy mixed with glycerol gave a transparent film and good flexibility. Film made from rice flour mixed with glycerol were translucent, flexible but more fragile than film made from cassava starch.
